![]() ![]() As strong a final act as ‘Flower Boy’ would be, here’s hoping it isn’t. In many ways though, ‘Flower Boy’ would be a fitting end to the story: Tyler has exorcised the demons that dominated ‘Bastard’ and ‘Goblin’, and found real sense of balance, perspective, and cohesion. The album ends with the sound of a car engine being cut, a door being shut, and footsteps… which is sure to fuel the debate. There’s a treatise on police brutality right from the off on ‘Foreword’, and throughout he makes reference to his own mental health with more introspection, and crucially less angst, than ever before.įans will no doubt already be heatedly discussing where ‘Flower Boy’ fits into the overall narrative of Tyler’s layered output. Lyrically, this feels like Tyler’s most accomplished album yet. Californian rapper/clothing line designer/tv star Tyler, the Creator seems to have had the opposite reaction to his abundance of success. Frequent collaborators and newcomers come together perfectly to realise his vision Frank Ocean, Lil Waune, A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith, Rex Orange Country and Kali Uchis. Album Review: Tyler the Creator - Flower Boy I often ask myself why do famous people keep working Once I earned a certain amount, I’d stop and become a private citizen and enjoy a stress-free life. ‘Flower Boy’ boasts a delicately curated line-up of artists who Tyler welcomes masterfully into his world. Tyler continues to grow in his role as a producer. While much of the press on the run up to the album’s release has revolved around lyrics about Tyler’s sexuality - ‘I Ain’t Got Time!’s “I’ve been kissing white boys since 2004” had the Internet going nuts - clickbait journalism feels irrelevant once your ears are basking in ‘Flower Boy’s lush compositions. On ‘Flower Boy’, though, Tyler has perfected his marriage of the two. ![]() ![]() Previously it felt like as though these two sides have been difficult to reconcile on record the abrasive would often be at odds with the tranquil, particularly on last studio album ‘Cherry Bomb’. His early output demonstrated an undeniable proficiency for gravelly, shock and awe rap - sure - but the occasional glimmer of beauty on record (‘Bastard’ cut ‘She,’ for example) and ‘Summer Camp’ mixes brimming with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey and Smith Westerns, Tyler alluded to another more delicate sensibility. I think I should touch on Tyler supposedly coming out but not for too long because I personally don't think it matters but I do think he's gay or bi and that's all i'm gonna say. There’s always been a duality to Tyler, The Creator’s musicianship that’s made him a compelling proposition from day one. To be honest I enjoyed this a lot more than DAMN. Who Dat Boy has a beat that I think X would rap on to be honest. At first I was afraid Wayne's verse would be trash or it wouldn't fit the production but it was one of the best Wayne verses i've heard in a while. The production on this album was always 100% and I don't think I hated any of the instrumentals here. See You Again is such a beautiful and soft song and I had no idea Tyler could sing like that especially considering he has such a deep voice. The narrative is about him worrying about being irrelevant which was strange coz im used to him saying he's the shit lmao. Let me start by saying Foreword was a really introspective Tyler songs ever. Where This Flower Blooms ft Frank Ocean- 8/10 Tyler really did blow me away with this album NGL. But if anything, Flower Boy captures Tyler at his least tormented and twisted it is an album of exquisitely arranged, melodious synth-rap, wistful and reflective, heavy on the heavenly. I've never really been a huge Tyler fan but I did see potential right from the start I just thought he needed to take his music more serious. Tyler The Creator- Scum Fuck Flower Boy Review (2017) Tyler, The Creator 'Flower Boy' 1 Listen Album Review Tyler is hip-hop's Peter Pan, and 'Flower Boy' is his brightest, most mature and magical album to date. ![]()
